Many more runner’s are avoiding “empty calories” and choosing alternative diets that give them the most nutrients per calorie. Colourful fruits & vegetables can provide antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. There is increasing evidence that anthocyanin – based phytonutrients from berries, cherries and the like can reduce inflammation and improve recovery. Similar effects have also been observed with turmeric and its extract curcumin.

The New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association suggests sticking to healthy and more wholesome foods, in turn getting all the required nutrients/proteins & carbohydrates. However, that’s not to suggest that one can’t get these necessities from other diets as well, such as through Veganism.

Veganism is becoming an increasingly popular dietary option to choose. With people concerned over animal welfare & impacts on the environment, many have turned to find their supplements elsewhere. Additionally, people no longer believe you need to get your strength from meat-based meals.
Most notably Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan are two high tier celebrities and sporting influencers who have adapted this new plant-based lifestyle.

Therefore, when looking to set up any event, planners need to cater for the needs of their clients. Food lifestyles definitely need to be taken into account when planning menus. In addition, many of the meat supplied in the meals could be replaced with plant-based supplements e.g. Quorn meat.
